Leyla is a calm and powerful presence. Her musical acumen is extraordinary… complete, thoughtful. A multi-instrumentalist, she played cello early on with the Carolina Chocolate Drops. As a song/tune writer, Leyla studies her subjects and history with a passion. She also appreciates and shares the passion of one of her author folk heroes, Langston Hughes. As a writer/performer, she’s recording history while making her own.
